Winter Backpacking Tips – Three Things You May Not Have Considered

Some are actually brave enough to face the conditions during the coldest months of the year and go backpacking. It is more difficult during the winter with the added weight as well as more limited mobility do to the layers of clothing to keep one warm. If done right, it can be a good experience. Before going out make sure you have considered all the possibilities so that you can be properly prepared.

The first is just simple common sense. You always want to be as prepared as possible so that you can be as safe as possible should anything go wrong. Make sure you have a first aid kit and all of the standard items such as flares, first aid tape, and a fire extinguisher. You will also need to carry enough clothing, food, and water supplies.

The second is to go out into the wilderness when it is freezing rather than staying in a motel or hotel. When you are outside, there is a lot to do. You can make a fire, roast marshmallows, make a bonfire, and just plain have fun. It is especially fun when you are not trying to stay warm.

The third thing is to tough it out. This one is the easiest of all to do given the fact that you are not required to build a campfire in order to spend time outdoors. You may opt to simply spend your time sitting in the bare ground, but even doing this is a pretty miserable experience. The reason for this is that in addition to the pleasure of just being able to sit, you also have to interact with the people around you. You could also store some food in the refrigerator so that it would be ready whenever you are.
