Kelsyus Backcountry Vacations

Kelsyus is an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for the simple things in life. You may know him best for his invention of the humble “Backpacker’s Trampoline”, but he is more famous for his love of nature and its preservation. He is also a leader in the Growing the Wilderness movement, which is dedicated to bringing back fallen wilderness areas and returning them to their natural beauty. Today, he is the founder of Sierra full Circle, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and businesses how to preserve nature in its purest form.

One of Sierra’s first projects was the creation of the Kayak Center in the small town of New Stuyahok. The aim was to provide a hands-on education center for children interested in the environment. The facility is near the town’s water supply, so that visitors could learn about kayaking and other water sports. Kayaks were something new and exciting and something that the town was very protective of since it was first used by explorers and later theft and endangerment caused it to become over used. So now children can even learn to kayak by using this center which also offers other fun and educational activities for children.

In order to protect the rare and sensitive nature of this place, Kelsyus had planted five ‘St. Croix’ statues to stand guard over the entrance to the Passage tower. This is so that the protective nature of the place would be understood by visitors as well as visitors’ that come to visit the place. Also, in order to educate and entertain the public, a nearby amphitheater was built for use by the public.

Since then, the ‘RV’ resort community that grew up in the area has witnessed fast growth and now hosts over half a million guests per year. Aside from the natural wonder of this virginb paradise that is located south of I-80, the resort community also includes some key industry participants such as Under Armor, Lowe Alpine, Wilson, Devon buildings and is fast developing into a hot destination for the visitor’s business.

Located at Milepost 120.4, right in the heart of the New Stuyahok wilderness area, Kelsyus is bordered on two sides by the Enchanted Forest, which is home to acres of hiking trails perfect for the experienced hiker. The gateway community has strong sanctuary and wildlife watching feelings.

Knowledgeable outdoor adventurers can fish in the rich shallow pool of water about 2.5 miles away at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Kayaking and canoeing are tried as well as rock climbing. You can also explore the large sugar maple trees and flowers or climb to the top of the Sugar Maple Tree and view the Cassidy Range. It is a great place for nature exploration, hiking and biking.
