Lake District
For those of us who love the Lake District, well known for its natural beauty and wide variety of outdoor activities, it is a life long quest to publicise and educate all those who are interested in holidaying in such a wonderful part of the world.
Independent of the weather the Lake District can also help visitors identify different terrains. Darlington being one of the most southerly counties in the UK has a vast assortment of climates, Meskill Hotels and St. Catherine’s is a village representing the luscious scenery of the more northern areas, together with Pennine Way a kilometre of some of the most breathtaking footpaths in the UK.
Darlington
Darlington is within the UK’s largest commuter rural area, covering 5 in every 10,000 population. Stress on the ‘b’ for the second part of this article as I am pretty sure that few people in the UK can say that they have walked in all the wonders of the Lakes without encountering problems.
Darlington has a very diverse environment, with a great variety of terrains, picturesque villages, thriving towns and even wild animal populations. The picture that reassures walkers that they are sorted to a main street is the presence of many bridges connecting the different areas.
Wales is a particularly wonderful place for those striking out on walking what is considered to be one of the world’s most challenging walks; The still waters of the Behani lie between the Marin Country of the North Wales Coast and the Irish Sea. There are circular paths that wind their way through the Youth Hostel sites, Dmoney Falls and craggy confines of the Tryweryn White Water Centre.
bustling cities such as Cardiff and Newport are at many times to be seen in the distance while to the east the respected Tryweryn White Water Centre attracts a myriad of tourists every year. With plenty to see and well- priced car hire it is an ideal base for couples wishing to see the whole of Wales.
Swansea, with its charming villages and one of the most picturesque spots in the South Wales Coasts, is an excellent base for those wishing to see the lake District. It is very simply put, a wonderful area for those who are sore to be out in the countryside any longer.
Conwy
Back where we’ve started, Conwy is that area of mountains between Anglesey and Snowdonia where Snowdonia meets the Pembrokeshire Hills. It is also a very convenient place to dock the boat from the Llanberis Pier and spend the afternoon or weekend in style.
There are a multitude of things to see and do in Conwy, but by far the highlight is the Ty Smee visitor centre which is a Welsh language daily programme made available at the Y Peninsular Hotel.
There are a range of walks of varying difficulty starting from the Conwy Mouth to Beddgelert. These routes are all easily accessible via the Snowdonia Path and can be enjoyed from about July to about September.
From Conwy’s promenade you can even watch walkers trekking up Dolgellau and Coolbran Mountain with Mount symbols. Coolbran Mountain has a real dual focus with both the north and south summit clearly visible.
If you’d like to explore this fascinating area you’ll find a perfect scrapbook of the walks through this amazing mountain range including a free maps collection at the museum just outside the museum entrance door.
