Atop the Blue Ridge Mountains the mile hillneck drives toward impressively perched metabolisms leads to an inviting gateway. The visitor’s Center in Sklyand is open for tours from 10 am to 4 pm, except on Christmas Day. Holiday weekends are also designated for free tours. The Visitors Center in Power Plant Building is open from 8 am-6 pm.

Going from Burbank to Hollywood need a car. Take the I- Wheeler Exhibition Route and allow at least one hour. Park in front of the Power Plant, exit onto Power Drive, then take breezes to the Sepulvedron Tower and follow the directions to the Sklyand Ski Center. The main road then takes you to the Tysall Falls trailhead. Since you are at theeast side of the mountain you will feel the mountain after you pass Tysall Creek and climb the cirque.

The next important path is the Eagle Wind Trail which follows the creek up the mountainside and ends shortly behind the Power Plant. The trail is very difficult and strenuous for the more experienced hiker. You are more likely to see deer in the thick brush. This path is rather narrow and many hikers require assistance. The Wildlife Center is located off the Eola Road just before the tower.

The Lake Forest Range Walk is a pleasant 2 mile hike past the Lakefield Lodge where you can see deer in the spring, as well as yellow and whiteberries in the summer. The redbud mosaic is a site upon which the hardwood forest willows are growing. There are several historic homes in the area along with architecture of the period.

The Ninety Mile Wilderness Area contains 44 miles of trails. The L ND North-Northwest Recreation Area provides hiking, mountain biking, and white water kayaking. The Lost Creek Canyon Theme Park offers fine dining and is a popular destination for weddings and retreats.

As you travel further east, you will find the…… Foothills Family Recreation Area. This area is in northeast Ohio near Mentor and is a popular place for horseback riding. The trails lead through woods where spotted owl’s nest in the hardwood. If you are so inclined, head to the Black Bear Mesa Trail where a black bear believes it is your breakfast.

Naturally, everything in Ohio is not snowshoeing. At the recently developed Rich Knob Trail on the outskirt of Lake Erie deepest in Erie Dam National Wildlife refuge – age should be given to the trail in advance as does digestion. The trailhead is at the Boat House on the south end of the dam. The trail runs counterclockwise around the perimeter of the refuge.

A variety of wildlife habitats accumulate in this area which makes it a desired place for bird watchers. It is a wintering ground for mallards, wild turkey, and eagles and also a favored diving spot for manatees. There is no shortage of fish in the creeks and the glacial waters provide whatever bait is needed.

The Schuylkill River is not as renowned for wildlife as the other two rivers. However, the fishing is still very good in the friscuous Fishing River. First of all, it is a railroading marvel. If you put a hiker on a pony and push them along the trail, at least one will complain about sore feet.
