Canada’s third largest city is famed for its picturesque villages, world-class markets and laid-back residents who rarely leave their homes in the middle of the city. Vancouver can also provide great opportunities for both leisure and business pursuits as the city offers a multitude of activities to those who live here.

Like much of Vancouver, the terrain is also varied. In addition to the downtown core that most tourists visit, over 30% of the city’s surface road space is devoted to indications and signs related to the city’s multitude of bays, mountains and other bodies of water. This makes it easy to explore the city’s less frequented areas.

Many smaller cities and towns in British Columbia haveipperidges which can make great spots for fishing, whale watching and other water based activities. The inner part of theNorth Cascade Mountainsare serviced by a number of lakes including the popularMoose Mountain. This area also boasts a number of very strenuous hikes along the side of their rugged coastline. Mount Vampire which is located just outside of the city is a strenuous 7 kilometer walk that takes several hours to complete.

Vancouver also has a number of trails located in its downtown core. The Mary Promenade and Pacific Spirit Walk are two of the most popular and the most popular routes. The Burrard Inlet and surrounding waters are homes to a number of warm water fish and are a great fishing spot. The trail takes about an hour and a half depending on the route you choose.

You can also spend a day or two wandering through the area and enjoying the scenery. Just outside of the downtown core is the town of Treasure Beach. The town is known for its year round population of 70k, annual events including the annual Canada Summer Games and a myriad of other fun things to do. The final option is to wander through the many shops in the area and spend a few hours wandering through the aisles.

Fishing and Catching in Vancouver

Fishing is a big draw for those who choose to live in Vancouver. Providing roughly 1 million tourists per year, it is the most popular destination in the English speaking Caribbean. And with a massive variety of fish species including Rainbow trout, Arctic char, Pacific grayling, marlin and black tip reef steelhead salmon, the fish opportunities are endless.

The downtown core of Vancouver is also contain a number of great parks. One of the more popular is the Granville Island waterside park. Apart from the lovely Vancouver Rowing Club that is not too far from the downtown core, there are a number of Picnic and Kids Aquariums, Scenic byways and Walking tracks. There is over 40 acres of land for the fish and animal lovers.

A vacation to Vancouver would not be complete without an RV stop off at Granville Island. The island is a city section with a row of hotels and condominiums. The main focus is to provide the visitors with a wonderful view of the ocean. Right next door to the parking lot is a short trail that leads to the city core. The trail continues all the way to downtown where the main trail continues.

All of the main areas of Vancouver are well-surfaced and shaded. The only problem? The city spends most of it’s budget on repairs and maintenance, which makes it’s not so visible to tourists. The good news is that the city does spend money on beautification.

They spent $20million in 2004 to fix up the Decker Park skate path. The new path is great for long walks and baby strollers. It also makes it easy for tourists to get to enjoy the outdoors. For those that enjoy boating there is a dock, cafe and even a hot tub here at the centre.

There is a Canada Place across the street from the Relax and Shop. This is a gift shop that has limited hours and has a couple of different options. One of the places is the Canada Place Tiburon restaurant and a large swimming pool. Another option is the Canada Place Pier, that has additional eating and bar facilities.

Aside from the big ticket attractions in town, the downtown core also has a range of smaller places that are not as big or famous, but offer a glimpse into the local lifestyle.

One of the places to check out is the Yew York Hotel on West Georgia Street. This heritage building is a favourite with visitors and locals of various ages. It is a large, stately home that is rented out on the weekends. It is easy to see that the hotel has been well taken care of, as every detail has been planned to pamper the guests.

Another hotel that is popular with visitors is the Woodroff Hotel on the Avenue of the Giants. This historic hotel is a combination of a five star hotel and a country club.
