Thousands of people come to Texas to visit the Alamo during the summer – but did you know that you can also see the city’s parks during the winter? During your stay, you can walk your dog in peace or enjoy a quiet evening with your friends. Just be sure to bring the right equipment to ensure that you’re comfortable.

During the Fall of 2006, Cathedral City became the first city in the United States to “roll out” a city wide system of parkways. Designed as a system of connected parks and green spaces, the system will eventually include 180 miles of parks and paths in 10 parks. The Alamo Heights area was the first to receive greenway status. Thus, trees are now being used to border the paths and manage the breezes.

During the winter, the parks will be open to the public for the winter. There will be a zoo, swimming pool, playground and kayak rental facilities. There will be a climbing wall, fitness trail and bike rental available.

Daytime is perfect in the parks of Cathedral City. You can watch the birds and animals outside the windows of the century year old church. You can often times see bald eagles and golden eagles as well as many varieties of smaller birds. You can walk your dog in these parks during the winter months.

Select parks may be reserved online along with any of the parks within the system. The church grounds are not your favorite places to picnic but there are other options. You can always bring your own picnic basket and coolers for your park visit. Many Cathedral City residents have used these as their prime spot to take their lunch to the park for many years.
